We recently launched a new website for Wessex Community Action, designed to reflect the organisation’s refreshed branding and the important work it carries out across Wiltshire.
Built with ProcessWire, the site combines a clean, minimalist design with a strong focus on accessibility, usability and performance.
The charity wanted to make use of the very legible Raleway typeface, their new colour palette and use a distinctive curved masthead that helps give the website its own identity. During the design process, the client was particularly drawn to the use of soft curves and gentle rounded corners in place of harsher angles and straight lines, helping to create a more welcoming and approachable feel. Large masthead image sliders introduce key areas of the organisation’s work, while bespoke photography has been used throughout the site in place of often overused stock images. Using original photos creates a more authentic connection with the communities and projects that Wessex Community Action supports.
Accessibility was an important consideration from the outset. The navigation has been designed to work fully with a keyboard, content layouts are clear and uncluttered, and pages have been carefully optimised to load quickly across desktop and mobile devices. The overall approach was to keep the interface simple and intuitive, allowing visitors to find information without unnecessary distractions.
he homepage boasts a number of requested features, including animated count-up statistics that display the organisation’s impact and minimalist content cards with unique SVG icons. These icons can be updated directly within the CMS, enabling staff to have the flexibility to manage and evolve the website as their needs change.
By combining thoughtful design with a lightweight CMS, the finished project provides Wessex Community Action with a modern and flexible website that will hopefully support the organisation for years to come.
